PRESS RELEASE
Swedish Animated Short Film Qualifies for the Oscars
Stockholm, September 2026
The Swedish animated short film The View, written and directed by Swedish-Iranian filmmaker and animator Alli Sadegiani, has qualified for consideration at the 99th Academy Awards® in the Animated Short Film category.
The View is the only animated film from Sweden to qualify for Oscar consideration this year.
Set in 1980s Sweden, the film follows an immigrant boy as he tries to find his place in a world shaped by identity, love, and belonging.
From Independent Project to Oscar Qualification
The View is an independent film project that Sadegiani developed over several years. What began as a personal project grew outside the traditional studio system, with an international team of contributing artists and filmmakers.
Since its premiere, the film has received international festival recognition and for Sadegiani, the Oscar qualification marks another milestone following a long career in international animation. He has previously worked at Pixar on films including Inside Out, The Good Dinosaur, Incredibles 2, Toy Story 4, Soul, and Luca, as well as the animated series Win or Lose.
Earlier this year, Sadegiani received an Annie Award for his work on Win or Lose.
“It feels very special that a film that began as a personal, independent project has now reached the Oscars process. At its core, The View is about trying to find your place in a chaotic world. It’s a story that is very close to me and that many people find relatable, and I’m incredibly happy that the film now has the opportunity to reach an even wider audience.”
— Alli Sadegiani, Writer & Director
Oscar®-Qualified — But Not Yet Nominated
Being Oscar-qualified means that The View is eligible to be considered by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for nominations in the Animated Short Film category.
The film has not yet been nominated for an Oscar. The next stage is the Academy’s selection and voting process, which will determine which films advance to the final nominations.
The View is represented by Tenth House PR for this year’s Academy Awards campaign.
